"Also, the firewire streaming spec is from IEC, not ISO,"

Ooops .. right you are. I confuse those sometimes, dunno why.

"although they do do a lot of joint specs, don't they? Anyway, it's IEC 61883-6 aka AMDTP. This is actually even implemented in open source, in every linux kernel around since 2.4.14 or so... and lots of boxes use it for streaming. Google pulls up Roland, Terratec and all the Bridgeco based boxes using it. While Yamaha introduced that spec to IEC and made it open, it holds back the magic that allows for dynamic routing and configuration of a system."

That's the story I've always heard too. I think only MOTU (S&S) and maybe one other ever did their own thing.

"This article is a pretty good one on mLan developement by a 'closed' open source group... http://linuxaudio.org/en/press/lud53-Audio_Libre.pdf
"

I found that on Google myself, but it has no pointers to specs. Will keep waiting then -- maybe AES is the next hope?

Does anybody know if there is any offset with the MOTU devices?

Hmm... the 618830-6 spec is available here:
http://webstore.iec.ch/webstore/webstore.nsf/Standards/IEC%2061883-6?openDocument

for 261 swiss francs. !? What? Didn't the swiss go the euro too? What's going on... plus, $215 dollars for a PDF?

Drats...
If it had all the mLan parts in it too, I guess it'd be a good deal...

Probably not, but I was talking about the early ones that used their own PCI card. The newer boxes probably use IEC streaming.

I can confirm the early ones with PCi cards do not have offset problems. It would be interesting to know if the firewire ones do?
