Re: OSX mLAN Release Candidate Released! Post Ple
With all respect to you guys that are celebrating and congratulating to Yamaha - my experiences are warning me so I am not joining that "celebration" party yet.
I am quite optimistic, but from my point of view - there is really nothing to celebrate yet. Don't forget that Yamaha would do nothing if we wouldn't shout for it (and it is really kind of Keyfax people that they kept this forum alive - and (what is really important) uncensored so we could talk about our problems, although very often our comments were not really "Yammy-friendly"). Untill we started the petition, nothing happened. Do not forget that.
No offense my friends. I just have to share my feelings, when I see posts like this - congratuling to Yamaha that they are "on time" (well, that should be a normal thing, shouldn't it?), or celebrating the "qualities" of the new driver....
I am not ingrate and I am aware that without support of Athan, Geo & co. we would be nowhere probably.
But we did not win the Cup yet. We are in round two, but who knows how many games we will have to play untill we get to finals?
Cheers, Mark

Re: OSX mLAN Release Candidate Released! Post Ple
Although Yamaha took years to finally release an acceptable driver for OSX, you have to admit, it appears that Yamaha has thus far kept their word since making their announcement at the beginning of the year as far as their future plans for development of mLAN drivers for the MAC.
While not completely perfect, this latest release is a vast improvement over what we were forced to use previously. I think the fact that Yamaha already advised that a future version of the drivers is expected to be released with further CPU improvements is also something to be cautiously optimistic about.
I do understand reservations may still exist but with this new driver maybe we can all get back to making music (as it should be) instead of finding acceptable "work arounds".
I can't wait to get back home to start cranking out some tunes on OSX (I am tired of running Windows via bootcamp).

Well, as of today that's still not true for the majority of people here who can't install the new release
But the packaging problem doesn't look too serious, I guess it's a matter of a few more days' wait for those who don't want to try the workarounds (Pacifist and apparently, chmod +x)

Hi Valmundo, I admit it. But than you have to admit (if you read some posts above here) that there are still necessary workarounds to be done first before you start working with efficient system, that will not eat all of your CPU before you even plug-in a Reverb (or whatever) in your DAW
Really, no offence man. Just wanted to note, that - although good things have been done - there is still work to do.

Velvet is right. There are things left to do and these include further work on CPU load and also resolution of the clock slave issue. These are issues that Yamaha has already committed to resolve and will deliver on in the future.
This release was the first step, but Yamaha has already acknowledged there are still things left that need to be done.

Velvet, we are in complete agreement: This release is a good first step....but it is still just a "first step".
However, I am cautiously optimistic that Yamaha will continue to provide improvements with the OSX mLAN drivers.

YamahaUS,
That's a bold statement. Thanks for making it and for the strong commitment that is implied.

wow. Whatever happened to a gracious thank you?
Yes there is more work to do, that much is obvious and acknowledged. Personally, I'd like to see an explanation as to why the CPU spiking still exists. Perhaps Yamaha_US, are you prepared to offer some reasons behind why CPU spiking is present, what are the technical reasons for it?

We thought this was posted earlier, but Yamaha divided the CPU optimization development into two stages, driver side optimization and OS side optimization. At this point, it is just the driver side that is completed.
We need to make sure that everything works well with Leopard when it is released as well as current Apple OS.

"(and it is really kind of Keyfax people that they kept this forum alive - and (what is really important) uncensored so we could talk about our problems, although very often our comments were not really "Yammy-friendly"). "
Most of Keyfax's website for Yamaha products are independent . They are also viable commercial sites for Keyfax in that they sell accessories and sound ware for Motifs, S90s, DTX , etc.
This site and mLAN Central have never been commercially viable for Keyfax because of the small market for mLAN products and the fact that there is very little available as accessory sales to these types of products.
So in fact, this site and mLAn Central are essentially underwritten by Yamaha.
We keep these forums open and leave them uncensored because it is important that there is one place where we can go to discuss these issues and interact directly with our customers.
