Known Issues
The following problems have been recognized on this version of mLAN Driver/mLAN Tools.
1. Internal Clock only as wordclock master
On the current version of mLAN Driver/mLAN Tools, any external mLAN device connected to the computer cannot be used as the wordclock master. All the external mLAN devices connected to the computer will be used as the wordclock slave.
When using mLAN Graphic Patchbay, make sure to set the Macintosh (displayed as “Stream Driver”) as the wordclock master.
For detailed instructions on these settings, refer to the manual for each device.
2. Problems when using Logic series with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz
On the current version of mLAN Driver/mLAN Tools, glitches and gaps in the sound may occur because of missing wordclock for a few seconds when starting a song or performing fast forward/backward repeatedly. When such a situation occurs, enter the blank data of approximately four seconds to the top of the song or try starting the record operation approximately four seconds before the intended record point.
3. Macintosh models which have restrictions on their ability to receive multiple audio/MIDI streams and connect multiple mLAN devices.
Yamaha has confirmed that the following models (listed below) can receive only four isochronous data streams via their internal FireWire ports. Among those streams, one stream will be used for FireWireIP by the Mac OS X, meaning that up to three streams are available for data stream of the mLAN devices. Each of these three streams can be used for audio signals or MIDI data sent from an mLAN device regardless of the amount of audio channels or MIDI ports. When handling both audio and MIDI using one of the following Macintosh models, you can connect up to one mLAN device, which consumes two streams for audio and MIDI. When handling only audio using one of the following Macintosh models, you can connect up to three mLAN devices, each of which consumes one stream for audio.
・ Mac Pro Xeon quad core/3GHz x 2(8 core)
・ Mac Pro Xeon dual core/2.66GHz x 2(4 core)
・ MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo/2.4GHz
・ MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo/2.33GHz
・ MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo/2.2GHz
4. When the port names are changed in Cubase by the number of ports
When changing the setup as described below in mLAN Auto Connector/mLAN Graphic Patchbay, the input of the VST connection may be set to “Missing: mLAN Network” when opening the Cubase file saved before changing the setup.
・ When changing the amount of the audio inputs (from the mLAN device to the computer) from 2 to 3:
・ When changing the amount of the audio inputs (from the mLAN device to the computer) from 3 to 2:
If such a case occurs, make the same setting again in the VST connection window.
5. Problems occuring when using Cubase series Version 4.1
When Cubase series Version 4.1 is open and the following operations are performed, audio transfer via the mLAN Driver is disabled. To enable audio transfer via the mLAN Driver again, restart Cubase.
・ Changing the Sample Rate in mLAN Connection Manager
・ Changing the Sample Rate in mLAN Auto Connector
・ Changing the Channel number in mLAN Auto Connector
・ Changing the Disconnect/Connect setting in mLAN Auto Connector
・ Changing the Sample Rate in mLAN Graphic Patchbay
・ Changing the Channel number in mLAN Graphic Patchbay
・ Changing the Connection setup in mLAN Graphic Patchbay
6. When establishing the mLAN connection using the expansion FireWire interface installed to the computer
When connecting the mLAN device to the expansion FireWire interface installed to the computer, follow the instructions below.
1) Quit the computer.
2) Connect the mLAN device to the expansion FireWire interface (installed to the computer) via the FireWire (IEEE1394) cable.
3) Turn on the mLAN device.
4) Start the computer.
5) Establish the mLAN connection by using the dedicated application software.

Um.

No external WordClock Master.

Disappointed.

Bum.

Any indications as to if this will ever happen ? Yamaha_US ? Geosync ?

Re: 1.1.4 is out!
That is it?

We waited one year for this?

Am I missing something? Where is improved CPU performance? Improved management of Midi over Mlan so that CPU doesn't go through the roof? External Worldclock? ...

They have just confirmed what we know about the newer Mac hardware that doesn't work, added compatibility with the N series so they can claim that Mlan is now working with the N series on a Mac.

Who is going to inform all those poor N series clients and prospective clients that Mlan on the Mac is not up to specs (the Yamaha Mlan specs published and advertised over two years ago)? That they don't even get external worldclock so that they can take their fancy lightweight mixers on the road after they disconnect from their computers?

What AM I MISSING?

I am not surprised nobody from Yamaha took the time to advertise this new release on this forum. They probably are ashamed and don't dare even approach us.

I don't know who I feel sorrier for... us or the few honest guys within Yamaha who like us believed this would be a major improvement for us and who asked us to trust Yamaha.

Updated PS: This post was made on the basis of the new items list published by Yamaha for this update. The list is apparently grossly underestimated as there appear to be a lot more improvements then listed and this new driver may turnout to be the one we have been waiting for. Fingers crossed and read on as more users provide feedback after actual testing...

On the dual G4 Leopard machine ... NO CPU SPIKES and 17% CPU while running Logic 8 with an Impuse Reveb

Improved management of Midi over Mlan so that CPU doesn't go through the roof?

See above

External Worldclock? ...

Driver promised by end of August many, many months ago..
One week late....

External word clock promised by end of the year at the same time as August GP..

It's not the end of the year.. This new team is delivering what they promise. The CPU load is excellent, the 8 Core MACs and PCI firewire card issue seem to be addressed. Everything except External Wordclock..

We just got the driver, we'll let you know more as we know.

Re: 1.1.4 is out!
All fair comments I guess - and if external wordclock is definitely coming, then if Apple hadn't left us dangling for all that time I suppose we'd have had it already.

Thanks for posting, Geosync.

Re: 1.1.4 is out!
just given it a quick go in 10.5.4, seems to be all ok.

there's a new 'connection manager' item that appears near the clock in the top right (not sure what that area is called). it has a little menu from where you can launch GP.

not sure what the 'connection manager' part is for though as it doesn't seem to actually connect to my 01x & i88x. maybe geosync can throw some light on this?

Re: 1.1.4 is out!
I've installed.

There is now an mLAN manager. It is a little app with an interface that appears in the upper right corner of your screen near the date, volume control, time machine, and mobile me sync. This is a method of cleaning up three separate applications that Yamaha currently has for connection... the autoconnector, graphic patchbay, and connection manager (which appears to be the AI driver for the XS w/mLAN16e and N series mixers - Geosync can you confirm this?).

Depending on what devices you own you can run peer-to-peer with one, autoconnect one or multiple, and custom wire with the graphic patchbay to one or multiple (old and new). These methods are all accessible from the mLAN manager. It is similar to what Yamaha puts in the System Tray on Windows, not exactly as there is no "APPLY" button on the Windows graphic patchbay (where patching changes are done in real time). But it cleans up the GUI and makes things simpler in general.

Before the mLAN manager you had to go digging in your applications folder for which application/method you needed to use for the hardware you own.

I'll post back as I learn more.

The autoconnector has save, recall, and remembers last state, so when using the next time, you can recall the connection setup just by starting the autoconnector.

Re: 1.1.4 is out!
The Factory Set button now does a proper reset of the isoch channels in situations where your 01X's ability to connect to you Mac got buggered by previously being on a Windows network. So Geosync's reset tool is no longer necessary.
