not working for me...
If I work with videos (imovie, Final cut express or others) it disconnects and I'm not able to reconnect. Only with reboot.
Working a lot with other applications, sometimes I have disconnections and I have to reboot.
And my wishlist is still here....
In other case, for example I have a m-audio 410 firewire, all working good, I have not to open a patchbay and click apply, and it doesn't disconnect in any case....

Re: not working for me...
f_ck!

I do not like the new driver

Gives me this message, when I want to connect all 32 ins/outs to/from a Mac:

The IEEE1394 bandwith is insufficient. Reduce the number of output channels for the node by adjusting the parameter in the Node information (Audio) window

this with 01x aand i88x , never (or hardly) hapenned before
I am still on PPC , now on Quad Core machine

aside this - the driver seems to be fine

Re: not working for me...
so, I connected mLan through PCIe card (Allegro express I think) and the it seems I can connect like before without warning messages about insufficient bandwith

maybe that Quad PPC G5 really has lower 1394 bandwith than dual PPC G5 I had before?
who cares now - if it will work this way

Great that they seem to have sorted use of alternative firewire controllers. Also, I recall with older versions of the driver that there was little in the way of warning messages, wether the connections were being made or not.

Velvet,

I was going to suggest you try that! That is great news and another great plus for Mlan on the Mac!

Re: not working for me...
Yes guys, the neverending story of weird messsages caused by plugging mLan to PCI firewire card instead of internal firewire is over now!

And all connections (their graphic representations) remain as they were before hitting APPLY button in GP

That seems to be also a major update

gongratulations to everyone who finaly wrote this piece of software

and big Thank you to Athan, Geo and co. for their support

It appears this update is "substantial". I am quite pleased.

Re: not working for me...
I might have spoken too soon on my post earlier. While the driver does indeed appear to be much more robust, it still cant really handle mLAN power offs/ons.

Tonight I flipped on the gear and tried to run the GPB, and was presented with the classic cant connect error. As far as I know, the only recovery for this is if you reboot.

Also, if you try to run the GPB and connect while the mLAN manager is active (ie: you started GPB outside of the manager) itll freak it out and give you the same sort of cant connect message.

Works well, but still cant give me the turn-the-gear-on-and-off-at-will warm fuzzy I am looking for.

Re: not working for me...
Tuf, the mLAN manager is just a short-cut to the various applications that exist for Yamaha devices on OSX. None of these can be active at the same time. So you must choose:

A) Autoconnector - for older mLAN devices with preset templates.

B) Graphic Patchbay - for multiple older and newer mLAN devices to be networked.

C) Connection Manager - simple peer-to-peer connectivty for the newer mLAN gear (also known as the AI driver).

So, the Connection Manager can not be active when you have already (or are trying to) call up the graphic patchbay. There is no "other" graphic patchbay, just the one in the applications folder. You can launch it yourself, or just use the mLAN Manager to call it up.

It has been suggested in this forum that you could create a template for the graphic patchbay and stick it in your start up items so the graphic patchbay launches on its own and loads the template. Then you just have to hit apply to get going.

Remember to have your mLAN hardware attached and on before launching the graphic patchbay, because obviously the hardware must be there and active in order for audio and midi streams to be established. Personally, I would never plug in or unplug an mLAN device while the graphic patchbay is active. And I would quit the graphic patchbay first, rather than shut down the mLAN devices which have established streams actively running to/from the units.

Re: not working for me...
To second Elmer's comments:

You wouldn't unplug a FW hard drive without ejecting it first from the desktop, eventhough FW is hot plug and play. Don't ask Mlan to do any better! The cosiness you are hoping for Mlan is actually the cosiness you are hoping for FW technology. We can't ask Yamaha to do better for FW then those who invented FW in the first place! We must be reasonable.

The addition of the Mlan manager is a bit confusing for those of us who have become acustomed to living so long without it. The Mlan Manager is just a convenience so you don't go looking in the application folder for your Mlan apps. Elmer's explanation on this is really the way to go!

I can confirm that if you use the GPB, you can really get just about as cosy as you are suggesting by putting your GPB configuration file in the startup folder. When you startup, the GBP will launch, and open your setup. All you have to do is then hit "Apply". Outside help could be employed for this last step, but the cost may actually outweigh the benefits!!!
