Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
Yes, you would need a 2nd mLAN device to route your analog ins out of.
So, two i88x's would work great.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
Ahh, that's what I thought, thanks for confirming that.
In that case, I'm going to stick with my 01V96 and RME HDSP9652, and save up for a single higher end pre/channel strip.

If anyone is interested, I have an i88x for sale, $600.00 cdn + shipping. I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Comes with manual, PS, and tools/plug-in disks.

Thanks again for the clarification.

Dave

If you don't have two i88Xs, then this solution will not work right?

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
Well, it depends what it is you want to do, Valmundo.
If the objective is to do without a firewire cable running to the computer (and thus not be actively running the mLAN drivers on that computer) then there are a lot of possibilities.

So, no, you do not need to have two i88xs depending what it is you want to do. However, if you have one i88x, you do need a 2nd mLAN device... like an 01X, or yes... another i88x.

Val, if you share with me what you have and what you would like to do with it, I can give you some ideas.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
I am trying to run my 01x and i88x in stand alone mode as described in this thread and I can't seem to get the i88x mLAN light to stop flashing. Can someone walk me through the configuration. My goal is to use the 01x to control Logic and to use the i88x pre-amps and A/D as my inputs. I am only tracking guitar along with virtual instruments and don't need more than 2 inputs so I am using a MOTU Ultralite mk3 receiving SPDIF and also being used as my MIDI interface connected to the i88x.

Thanks!

It looks like the routing is good.
What happens when you hit APPLY on the graphic patchbay?
If there is an issue, you really should get an error message of some kind.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
When I hit apply there is no error but the i88x mLAN light constantly flashes and no midi is being transmitted. I seems like it is not seeing the clock from the 01x. Is there something I need to do in the utilities on the 01x to get it to send the clock signal? When I go back to having the computer act as the master clock the i88x works fine so I don't think the issue is with the i88x.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
Hmmm, you may need to reset the 01X and/or the i88x, this is done from the autoconnector (not the graphic patchbay). Remember you can't have both running at the same time. You'd go into the properties or setup for the device you want to reset, and I think there is a factory set button at the bottom. I'm not in front of it right now, so I can't quite picture it exactly.

Also, you may have to toggle the 01X over to it's own internal clock manually. Or back to automatic sync, depending what you've been doing. This is done from Utilities/W.Clock on the 01X itself. The i88x can be master clock of your network, however... only at 44.1, not 48.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
Still trying to figure this one out. I was able to get it to work with the i88x as the master but not with the 01x as the master. By work I mean that I am able to record audio via input 1 on the i88x with the audio routed to the 01x via mLAN and the 01x SPDIF going into the Ultralite mk3. Also with the i88x as the master the midi is transmitted from the i88x to the Ultralite so that the 01x is controlling Logic 9.

When I try the 01x as the master I am able to get the midi to Logic so the 01x controls the program but the audio is not getting from the i88x to Logic.

Re: Standalone mLAN network / Snow Leopard
This is because you have one i88x, right?
Not two?
So you have to route the A/D inputs of the i88x over mLAN to the 01X, then back out the ADAT outs of the i88x.

If you had two i88xs you would be able to just route the A/Ds of one out the ADAT of the other, and vice versa. Since you have only one, you have to go to 01X first then out the ADAT.

So, this isn't a wordclock issue, it's a routing one, I think.
Do you really want to use SPDIF or ADAT?
How many simultaneous channels of audio do you need to record at one time?
